Selected Independent Funeral Homes' Selected Connections

DEERFIELD, Ill. – Approximately 40 members of Selected Independent Funeral Homes gathered at Bliley’s Funeral Homes in Richmond, Virginia, for a two-day program focused on approaching cremation from a different perspective, according to a news release.

Speakers included Dr. Thomas G. Long, noted professor and author of "The Good Funeral: Death, Grief and the Community of Care;" Mark Higgins, president of Hall-Wynne Funeral Services, Durham, North Carolina; Neil O'Connor, president & CEO, O'Connor Mortuary, Laguna Hills, California; and Becky Lomaka, education & outreach, O'Connor Mortuary.

Selected Connections programs typically are entirely planned and hosted by a Selected member firm that opens its doors to other members in order to highlight best practices and lessons learned. These members-only, hands-on programs highlight the camaraderie and trust shared by Selected members.

Participant feedback solidifies the value of this program.

“The content was superb,” said Charles (Chip) Billow of Billow Funeral Homes & Crematory in Akron, Ohio, and the incoming Selected board president. “There is such value in learning from those who have heightened the standards or the norm to better serve the public and ourselves as the provider.”

Michael Newman of Panebaker Funeral Home in Hanover, Pennsylvania, added, “this is one of the best programs I have attended!”

Selected recognized Ernie Kassoff and Facultatieve Technologies, a Selected Preferred Partner, for the generous sponsorship of the program.
